Since the dramatic expansion of the Internet into what people now call Web 2.0, the need for effective website marketing has entered a whole new level.  There are a number of critical Internet marketing optimization factors that go into an overall website marketing plan. Only the best SEO services effectively manage those factors, and it’s important for website owners to understand those factors when they are selecting which SEO expert to hire.

Internet Marketing Optimization Factors You Need to Know

What makes a website perform well within a Google search? According to Google, there are about 200 factors that go into how a particular website “ranks” within search listings. Unfortunately, most SEO services focus on a small minority of those Internet marketing optimization factors, while ignoring others. Certainly, no one could possibly provide due service to all 200 factors, but a quality SEO expert should be aware of the top 50 to 100 factors and know how to effectively exploit those.  The following list includes the top five optimization factors that you should ask the potential SEO expert about. If the expert is knowledgeable about these, which should signal to you that they know what they’re talking about and can most likely effectively market your website.

1. Your site’s original ranking: In the calculation of your website’s ranking, Google typically factors in the current standing of your website. This makes sense since larger, established websites usually have more relevant content and earning that ranking signifies an existing validity that takes time to build up.

2. Incoming links: If your website doesn’t already have a high ranking, one way to optimize your site and build up the search engine rank is by establishing a large number of incoming links from high-value websites. In other words, if large highly-ranked websites feel that your site is important enough to link to, then the search engines look at that as a vote of confidence, and will increase your ranking accordingly. It’s not so important to have multiple links from one site, but instead a few links from multiple sites.

3. Keyword optimization: Keyword optimization is one of the most powerful, and often-used factor in SEO optimization. This involves researching highly searched keywords that have low competition and effectively distributing those keywords throughout the specific page on your site that applies (usually throughout an article). Using just the right number of keywords in just the right locations on the page will effectively optimize your website for search engines.

4. A “fresh” website: A website that’s highly ranked in Google will not only have high quality articles with effective keyword usage and incoming links, but it will also be the website that has content that’s regularly updated. One optimization factor Google looks at is the posting date on blogs and websites, and websites that have pages that change more often with modified or new content get ranked higher than sites that are more static.

5. Keyword spamming: Another factor that affects search engine ranking is the use of too many keywords too many times. A few years ago, website owners used to try to take advantage of Google’s keyword ranking system by repeating a specific popular keyword a huge number of times on one page. This would force the Google algorithm to rank the site highly, at least in the short term. Google quickly caught on to the tactic and has since then modified the algorithm to actually reduce the ranking of sites that partake in that tactic, known as “keyword spamming.”
